This Week In Music: 16 - 22 May
Five months into the year and I'm still putting these things together and getting excited each time it starts to come right is mad.
Five months into the year and I'm still putting these things together and getting excited each time it starts to come right is mad.
It’s funny how I showcase my life in these weekly segments as if I’m the only one who actually sees this but I post it all out for everyone on the internet to see.
When I tell you this week has been hard, I'm talking nothing short of 98+2. New work, best friends in intensive care, love life in a flaming bin and Chelsea losing. It's been the best of times and the absolute worst of times but we move baby.
I've been back from Splashy for a full week now and I can't begin to say how happy I am to have hot water, a toilet and a massive fuck off bed to sleep in every night.
I spent the long Easter weekend out in the mountains, in Underberg. I went to Splashy Fen Music Festival with a couple of my close mates and had 4 days of some of the coldest, wettest, drunkest and most fun nights of my life. Maybe in a few weeks when I've fully defrosted and become human again, I'll write a piece on my experiences.
This week ahead is going to be a real madness coming up.
Theydies and Gentlethems, the man is back and it's all straight fire.
I've been man-down this past week, only surviving on a strong diet of medication and sleep. It's been intense.
When I was younger, I'm talking teens, I went to a music festival called Splashy with my mates. We were young and still wet behind the ears but we were eager teens and being away from parents for a week, out in the mountains with music and booze all around, we were made. The first few times we went, we had a chaperone but honestly our chaperone was a true gent, he let us do our own thing but with check-ins to make sure we were all still alive and all that regular admin.
It’s been 2 weeks since the last playlist came out and I’d love to say it’s because I was lazy and forgot to put one out but I was actually in Guam, fighting laser dolphins. Actually, no, I genuinely was just very busy with real life and so decided to take a week off and get all my ducks into stews and my eggs into cartons so that I’m fully focused when this week starts again.
Contrary to popular belief, I was born at a very early age. I know a lot of people strongly believe that I merely phased into existence as I am now and a lot of you who hold this belief would be right because let's be honest, my soul is old. The real truth is however, I was born in the 90s and really came to being who I am in the 2000s. The 2000s gave us all sorts of music and with the rise of the internet, we got blessed with being able to be exposed to all sorts of genres of music at the touch of a button. Before though, you pretty much had to live with whatever sounds the radio was churning out and I think we can all agree that the best time of radio tunes was in the 80s.
You guys remember not too long ago when the world came to an absolute standstill and we all had to stay indoors because there was a whole fucking pandemic on the go? You guys remember being indoors all day? Having to wash your hands and your groceries and pretty much anything that came in and out of your house? I remember this very well.
The world is in chaos right now, Big Bad Vlad is acting like a cake laaitie out there and no one quite knows where the fuck we’re going so I thought why not try dance through the dread but still be very fucking aware of it.
It’s another Friday, we’ve made it through another week people and we should all be proud of ourselves.
This week’s playlist is inspired by Kanye West and the Jeen-Yuhs documentary. If you haven’t seen it, honestly do yourself a favour and check it out.
Justin Clarke, better known by his stage name Ghetts (formerly Ghetto), is a British grime MC, rapper and songwriter from Plaistow, London with Caribbean roots from Jamaica and Grenada.
Grab your partner, pull them in close and whisper in their ear, "It's here, new playlist just dropped!" Also, it's Valentine's Day so like that's also a thing.
Happy weekend you filthy animals!
It’s the week before Valentine’s Day so it would only be appropriate to make a playlist of love songs, right? I mean yeah, it’s great but also this is me and I don’t often do things the way I’m meant to.
Second crowd curated playlist is up and running. Happy Friday.
